The experimental Tokyo fashion collective Mintdesigns sought to evoke emotion with their Chimpanzee mask project, albeit in a more provocative way. Debuted at the Senseware exhibition in Milan, the Chimpanzee mask is made from Smash, a highly thermoplastic non-woven fabric that’s lightweight and extremely durable.

While most medical masks available today always presenting- “wearing them often makes you feel down” feeling, Mintdesigns chose to present a more playful alternative. Amid swine flu pandemic, the Chimpanzee mask surely will encourage more people to put on mask, for fun or healthy reasons.

With the paint can made similar to Pantone chart, a home buyer can easily know the color he/she bought, not like the current paint can where all the paints share the same can and packaging, with the different on the small label. Also, a color lover can look on the Pantone guide before going to the paint shop.

A re-branding of the fast growing organic wine, Spear Design Group developed the new packaging that tells the Yellow+Blue story for the Y+B Wines company’s four eco-friendly, organic wines: Malbec, Torrontes, Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé.

Yellow+Blue = Green. When you mix the two together, you get green — as in environmentally conscious Y+B organic wine packs in the Tetra Pak: save cost and save carbon footprint.

The wine packaging features bright colors with Wine descriptors and factoids wrap around the eco-friendly carton. The type grows up vertically to create visual impact.

James Turrell

Amazing light installation by American light artist James Turrell in Bridget’s Bardo (Ganzfeld Piece) exhibition.

In collaboration with the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, James Turrell has created his largest-ever walk-in light installation in a museum context: an 11-metre-high, ‘space within a space’ structure that covers a floor area of 700 square meters and reaches up to the glass roof of the museum. Turrell’s “Ganzfeld Piece: Bridget’s Bardo” is a hollow construction divided into two parts. The two interconnecting chambers ‘the Viewing Space’ and the ‘Sensing Space’ are both completely empty and – a new feature of this type of work – flooded with slowly changing colored light.

Things I Have Learned In My Life So Far, an interactive exhibition by Stefan Sagmeister, opens at Deitch Projects on January 31, 2008. The exhibition included works that have a life of their own, transforming throughout the exhibition as viewers engage with them.

Part of the exhibition, the Banana Wall was an art installation created with 10,000 bananas & some glue, stacked together to formed a giant banana wall with motto: Self-confidence Produces Fine Results. The interesting thing about this installation is that it change over time. As the banana ripen further, the motto will disappeared and the background become brownish-yellow. The whole bananas gradually decays over 24 days of the exhibition.

Stefan Sagmeister is one of today’s most innovative and influential graphic designers. His conception and application of graphic design goes above and beyond traditional notions of the practice, taking it to the realm of performative and conceptual art, painting and sculpture. Sagmeister is most widely known for his album cover artwork for bands like The Rolling Stones, Talking Heads and Lou Reed, and for books, like Mariko Mori’s Wave UFO for the Kunsthaus Bregenz, which function as sculptural objects.

With beautiful black and white illustrations, Designer's Journey successfully sending an unpretentious "every day feeling" and to open a window to the smells, sounds and impressions of a simple life in the countryside. Designer's Journey idea is to create an identity that would reflect this authentic background by melting humor and pairing suggestions with intimate and nostalgic values.

The new Swan XL is a larger version of the Swan table lamp, which was introduced earlier. Swan XL is a floor lamp designed to go next to the armchair of an avid reader. It provides a focal point that looks equally impressive in private homes as well as public spaces – anywhere that requires a good spotlight.

Floor lamps are made up of three parts: the base, the stand and the shade. "I wanted to give these components a new, modern form and this led to the creation of Swan XL. It is not just a larger version of the table lamp, however. I've altered the dimensions to make it work better as a floor lamp. To ensure that the design was functional, I made life-size drawings of the XL version to see what it would look like next to my favourite armchair," Eero Aarnio says.
